The Columbia Freshman Football team Recap

The Columbia Freshman Football team would once again prevail victorious over another opponent on Thursday night, this time besting Needville by a score of 35-7. The Necks took the opening drive 50 yards and punched in their first touchdown when Logan Bailey rumbled into the endzone from 15 yards out to make it 7-0. After a Roughneck Swarm on defense that caused a 3 and out, the road graters of Tristan Novads, Jaycob Gonzales, Bradford Erwin, Kaden Davis, Abel Garcia, Luis Guevara and Trevor Kelly paved the road for another Bailey touchdown run to go up 13-0. The defense led by Cole Gotcher, Daxton Newell, Gavin Gros, Detavion Faniel and Cade Lamb went back to work allowing only 50 yards in the first half. The Swarm caused multiple sacks and tackles for losses all night as well as a strip by Blake Osteen, a fumble recovery by Gotcher and a big-time hustle play when safety Braylon Thomas ran down a defender and plucked the ball free for Bailey to recover. Kavion Lewis and Trevon High would each cap off long offensive drives with their own respective touchdown runs while Alexis Villasana kicked the extra points to make it 28-0. After a minor mishap in the 4th quarter that led to only points for Blue Jays, the Necks would answer on the very next play when good blocking allowed High to boogie 75 yards up the field and down the sideline to put the game to bed. The freshman Necks will take their show on the road next week when they take on the Blackcats of Bay City at Memorial Stadium with a 6pm kickoff.
